You’re relocating to a house with home security alarms
A new home may come with an existing security system. All the alarms and cameras function well, are installed in the correct places, and are ready to go. In this case, just pick up the phone to call and set up a new contract. A Vivint expert will still show up to make sure there are no compatibility issues, and they may offer suggestions on an upgrade or two. It's a fast trip, and you can get your alarm monitoring set up without having a bill for any new alarms and cameras -- unless you make additions.
The previous owners can give an existing Vivint contract to your family for a one-time set-up cost to make your life easier. If the owners downsize to a condo or retirement community, you keeping the security contract might be a part of the sale.
You need to move and bring your old equipment with you
You might want to take your existing Vivint system with you to a new home when you move. That’s pretty simple to accomplish, as most alarms and smart devices are plug and play. You can take down each component by yourself or use a Vivint expert to come and take down the system. Then a pro will put in the same features -- and any smart items you want to add -- in your new home. The home security contract will remain the same.
